As the Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) meet today and tomorrow respectively, no fewer than 17 governorship candidates of the party yesterday held a closed-door meeting with Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike.
According to reports, the candidates arrived in Rivers around 8pm and met with Wike at his residence in Rumueprikon, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.
The candidates, it was gathered, were from Sokoto, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, and 13 other states. They were in Wike’s country home in Rumueprikon, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.
Although, the reason for the meeting is unknown as of the time of filing this report, ThisNigeria reports that it may not be unconnected to the 2023 general elections.
This is as the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) and National Caucus are set to meet on Thursday, September 8.
The council is expected to discuss the crisis involving the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the Rivers Governor.
They are also expected to discuss the demand for the removal of the party National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
