NYSC urges LASG to complete permanent orientation camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos State has appealed to the state government to complete the permanent orientation camp under construction at Agbowa in the Ikorodu area of the state.

Mr. Eddy Megwa, State Coordinator, NYSC, made the appeal in an interview on Monday in Lagos.

Megwa urged Gov.Babajide Sanwo-Olu to give a matching order to the contractors to commence works at the permanent site in Agbowa, Ikorodu.

He said that the appeal has become necessary for the ‘ City of Excellence ‘ to have a befitting NYSC permanent orientation camp.

He noted that the permanent orientation campsite was still very strong in the mind of the State Government to actualize.

“Mr. Governor is also aware that Lagos is the only state in South-West that does not have a permanent orientation camp.

“I know that Mr governor is not comfortable with the fact of not having NYSC permanent orientation camp, being the reason he has deployed the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations to ensure they go into it and commence an action.

“The inadequacies of the temporary orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja is not good enough for the number of Corps members deployed to Lagos, most times we are compelled to dislodge them in Oyo, Ogun and Osun States.

“So, we are really pleading with Gov. Sanwo-Olu to please do everything within his power to actualize this permanent orientation camp in Agbowa for us to move in there in no distant time,” Megwa said.

He noted that Lagos, the most cosmopolitan state in the Southern region, was capable of handling teaming numbers deployed for the NYSC programme as the corps members are anxious to take ownership of the situation.

According to him, the permanent orientation camp will create an enabling environment for the body to administer perfect and required training for corps members during the orientation period.

The state coordinator, however, expressed confidence that Gov. Sanwo-Olu would deliver the permanent orientation camp sooner than anticipated.
