Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara on Wednesday restated his administration’s commitment towards boosting the economy of the state.
AbdulRazaq said this in Ilorin when Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), visited him.
The governor had during the visit, presented a certificate of occupancy to a piece of land for the siting of the Kwara State Free Trade Zone to the NEPZA Chief Executive Officer.
He said that the gesture was to demonstrate the state government’s political will to strengthen the economy, tackle unemployment and bring prosperity to the people.
“We are presenting this certificate of occupancy to fortify our commitment to the opportunity given to us by the Federal Government.
“Free trade zones have a way of attracting investments and accelerating economic developments in the catchment area.
“One of the unique things about the Kwara State Free Trade Zone is its proximity to the local airport, the benefits of this project will be huge,” he said.
Earlier, Adesugba described Kwara as an investment-friendly location, and one suitable for a special economic zone.
“Investment thrives in locations where it is needed and supported,
Kwara has shown enormous interest to welcome the establishment of a special economic zone.
“We shall provide a state-of-the-art equipment to ensure that investors are attracted into the state,” he said.
He said that NEPZA was already talking with investors from Turkey, Egypt and China to take advantage of the zone.
“This is in line with the Federal Government’s industrialization agenda, we have to take advantage of special economic zones to tackle unemployment, security and poverty challenges,” he said.
