Pandemonium, followed by a spirited scampering and bitter street fight, erupted yesterday as parents struggled to intervene in alleged kidnapping of five students in two days, which reportedly took place at the Wahab Folawiyo schools complex in Osborne area of Ikoyi, Lagos.
Eyewitnesses told ThisNigeria that three students were picked up by ‘unknown drivers’ on Wednesday, and another two, yesterday at the premises at the school, after school hours.
Unconfirmed reports said one of the children had been killed, while three had been freed by the suspected abductors.
This was, however, attributed to the claims of one of the abducted students who said she managed to escape.
Two women were badly wounded in a free fight witnessed by our correspondent at a school entrance yesterday.
They were injured in the course of battling a bus driver who allegedly came to pick up a student she could not readily identify.
Angry parents besieged the school, with some raining curses that they would prevent their children from resuming at the school.
Onlookers protested with vehemence, wondering why the students, traders and sundry artisans serenading the facility could not mobilise to erect cordons to prevent the flight of the suspected kidnappers.
“With all the boys here, they could not do anything? A woman wondered, almost in tears.
“I wonder whether they will get pickin for the house,” a woman sobbed, saying, “the girl said they killed one, and one escaped yesterday. Dem don do that before in this school.”
She added, “Small, small girls, fine, fine, na dem dey find trouble for themselves. They want to ride in the best cars.”

A distraught mother accompanied by relatives was seen pleading with her son to go into the classroom to “contact his teacher (name withheld)” to pick his school bag at the Government Secondary School end of the school complex.
Lagos State Police spokesman, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, did not respond to calls when a phone call was placed to him yesterday. A text message sent to him on the matter was also not responded to.
