Senate slams FCT Minister, says capital city is dirty

By Ben Adoga, Abuja
The Green Chamber of Nigeria’s National Assembly has taken a swipe at the condition of Abuja City Centre, describing it as dirty, dark at night, full of prostitutes and hawkers, etc

Chairman, of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Smart Adeyemi frowned at the deteriorating state of Abuja city, citing night markets, cooking on the main road of Abuja city centre, return of call girls, roadside trading, hawking, begging and filthiness of the city.

He called on the Minister of FCT and Director of Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB to wake up to their responsibilities.

Adeyemi maintained that Senate will not do blanket approval of government agencies, ministries and departments, saying the allocation of the budget will continue to be on the performance of such department agencies and parastatals.

Sighting from the past administration, Senator Smart Adeyemi said much was needed to be done in FCT to reclaim the fading glory of the city.

He said that the deteriorating environment of the nation’s capital would not only affect the economy of a nation but will add to insecurity and its reputation.

He assured me that with a very short time remaining for his committee to round off, they would stop at nothing to provide an FCT that works for all.
