Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has accused Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara of failing to keep to the terms of a peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the political crisis in the state.
Speaking on Wednesday during a thank-you visit to Tai Local Government Area, Wike alleged that Governor Fubara reneged on commitments reached during a closed-door meeting convened by President Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, in June 2025. The meeting was aimed at ending the protracted power tussle in Rivers State, which culminated in the declaration of a state of emergency and the suspension of the governor and members of the State House of Assembly.
Although both Wike and Fubara had, after the meeting, publicly pledged to work together to restore peace in the state, the details of the agreement were never disclosed.
However, Wike said the governor had since acted contrary to what was agreed, warning that the contents of the deal would soon be made public.
According to the minister, any agreement reached in the presence of the President ought to be respected, describing Fubara’s alleged actions as a breach of trust and political maturity.

Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Rivers State, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, Senator representing Rivers South-East, Barinada Mpigi, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and APC National Vice Chairman (South South), Victor Giadom, during Wike’s Thank You Visit to Tai Local Government, Rivers State on Wednesday.
He further warned thrat Fubara’s political future remained uncertain, insisting that forces opposed to the governor were prepared to mobilise and “correct the mistake” of the 2023 election.
Wike maintained that political strength was not determined by access to state resources, adding that his camp had previously defeated well-funded opponents and would do so again if necessary.
The former Rivers State governor also commended the people of Tai Local Government Area for their support for President Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, noting that their loyalty had attracted federal presence to the area, including appointments, infrastructure projects and the establishment of the Federal University of Environment.
