Mixed reactions trails Joe Igbokwe’s ‘state of nation’ question

Nigerians have expressed mixed reactions as Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s ally sought their genuine thought on the state of Nigeria since the president came into office.

In a post on Facebook, Igbokwe wrote, “Please, in the name of God Almighty, the Maker of Heaven and Earth let us do some due diligence here: Is Nigeria getting better? Are prices of goods and food items coming down? Is Nigeria’s security improving? Is there hope of a better tomorrow?”

His question was met with mixed reactions of some Nigerians who argued in favor of the government and others who bashed Tinubu’s administration.

A Facebook user, Gabriel Abumere knocked the government over the sudden increase in the prices of goods and services in the country.

He wrote, “Food prices went to the sky when this government came in. Prices can only be said to come down when the prices of food is lower than where this government met it. Nobody takes something from 200 to above 1,000 and thus remove 50 Naira and be claiming prices are coming down.
Prices should come down from 200.”

For Mayokun Akpoterabor, the government has down well to reduce inflation.

“Yes sir. Good prices are coming down. Was still at the market yesterday. Nigeria is rising again,” Mayokun said.

“Don’t just expect positive response to be much for this question because your wall is full of wailers and haters of good things about Nigeria. Nigeria is returning back to it greatness,” Asiwaju Lukman told Igbokwe.

Adamu Mohammed wrote, “We don’t really see that, uncle! What we are seeing is the slow down or halt in foods prices’ increases. And that is due to the imports of foods we produce or process locally (at the detriment of local production).

“We were crying when a bag of rice reached 25k during the last part of FPMB’s regime; how on earth can we say that its price has come down when it’s now 90k? Habaaa Uncle Joe!”

Arnold F M Ajala said, “Hike in ATM charges
Hike in call card
Hike in internet data
Hike in digital TV subscription.
Hike in electricity tariff
Thank God prices of food are falling.”

Another user, Said Prince, replied to Igbokwe saying, “This Imf/world Bank poverty-induced government of Tinubu is ain’t giving us any hope.”

“The question is what’s the price tag at the beginning of tinubu’s tenure?” Yusuf Umaru asked.

Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq wrote, “There is always hope for a better tomorrow, however, the cost of farm produce is getting lower now, the problem is that the masses cannot feel it because the price of fuel and the exchange rates are still higher, noted prices of essential items remain the same.”

“Another stale preaching, you go preach tire. Take us back to pre Bulaba regime. Bayo Onanuga, Bwala etc will not be happy with these erratic strays into their core responsibilities,” were the words of Chimela Nwanna.
