Reports about the dehumanizing treatment of Nigerian workers in Chinese companies, especially in the East, are rife on social media. The most recent being a secret video of work conditions at the Inner Steel Company Limited in Obehie, Abia State.
This prompted a delegation from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to visit the company to investigate if there were elements of truth to the news.
Though it was found that the work environment was not conducive, the company, through its lawyer, has claimed that the exercise was born out of the machinations of competitors. Workers who had been sacked were also blamed for having a hand in trying to bring the company down.
