One of the Permanent Commissioners in the Kaduna State Peace Commission, Mrs. Rebecca Sako-John, has revealed that the Commission is activating all Peace and Security Committees in the 23 Local Councils in the State, following the directives of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, as part of a long term strategy to address insecurity in the state.
She revealed this in an exclusive interview with ThisNigeria in Kaduna on Wednesday in her office.
She explained that the Kaduna Peace Commission has set up a security Early Warning Situation Room that is manned by the DSS, Police, Civil Defence, and KADVIS, which monitors the state security situation round the clock.
The Early Warning Situation Room is equipped with an App, Computers, and other technologies, that enable citizens to report incidents, the tension that could lead to the breakdown of law and order, movement of foreigners/Strangers, and other suspicious activities that could breach the peace and security of the state. Citizens, she said, can access the App on the Google APP store to participate in the security monitoring and reporting in their location.

She said, “the Governor recently directed the Commission to move to the zones where there are reported cases of insecurity to address all the issues”. At the moment, she said the Commission is currently organizing zonal dialogues sessions in all the senatorial districts, beginning with the Southern zone of the state to address the root causes of conflict and insecurity, then moving to the northern and central zones later.
In addition, there is preparation to further build the capacity of the Local Government Information Officers, as first responders and expanded Local Government Security and Peace Committee will now hold mandatory every month to leave no room for ungoverned spaces in Kaduna state.
