Peter Obi decries attack on Chukwuma Soludo

The former governor of Anambra State and the Peoples Democratic Party’s Vice President  in the 2019 presidential election, Peter Obi, strongly condemned the attack on for governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

Prof. Chukwuma Soludo was attacked in his home town in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State on Wednesday by some gunmen.

During the attack  some policemen  were killed and a commissioner was abducted

Peter Obi on his Twitter handle lamented that political violence should have no place in the democratic process in Anambra State.

He also said that the ballot and not the Bullet should determine the outcome of our elections.

Recall that  Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in February had declared his intention to run for the governorship of Anambra election stated for November 6 under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Declaring his ambition he had said he had been a party man since 2013 and would be better, if APGA offered him the ticket.

 

More so the police command in Anambra has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the bloody attack by gunmen.

Three policemen reportedly lost their lives during the attack, which occurred at about 5.30 p.m. on March 31, according to media reports.

A statement issued on Thursday in Awka by the Spokesman of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP. Tochukwu Ikenga, said that a police team had been commissioned to undertake discrete investigation into the attack.

Ikenga said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Monday Kuryas had visited the attack scene

late on March, 31.

“The assailants were resisted by security operatives present at the event and in the ensuing gun duel, three police operatives sustained severe gunshot injuries and were later confirmed dead in hospital.

Their corpses have been deposited in the mortuary.

“The attackers abducted one Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne, the Anambra State Commissioner of Public Utilities.”

Ikenga said the police commissioner later visited Soludo at his home to commiserate with him on the incident
