Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has berated a former Minister for Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi over his statement on the Igbos.
Amaechi, while campaigning for the All Progressive Congress (APC) guber candidate in Rivers, Tonye Cole, had alleged that the Wike-led administration was unfair to the Igbo people.
Reacting to Amaechi’s allegation, Governor Wike blasted him, saying that the former Minister claimed to love the Igbos but did not throw his weight behind the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi in the recently concluded Presidential election.

Speaking at a 2023 gubernatorial campaign rally, Wike said “You (Amaechi) believe you are intelligent, but you are not. You claimed to love the Igbo, but you backed Atiku. You refused to back Obi. You’re supposed to support the Igbos if you truly love them.
“How long have you been a minister, and what have you done for the Igbo? What do you do for Igbo people?
“When he (Amaechi) ran for president, he stated that power should be transferred to the South. When he lost, he didn’t believe in that again and said power should go to the North. So that when the North is done, they can give him”
