Police arraign man for allegedly stealing car battery

The Police in Osun on Tuesday arraigned 18-year-old man Wasiu Komolafe for allegedly stealing of car battery.

The Prosecutor, ASP Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 3, around 7:55 p.m. at Oluwatoyin Street, Kosere Area, Ile-Ife.

Emmanuel said that the defendant stole a Toyota Carina E car battery valued at N25, 000, property of one Raheem Waliyu.

He added that the defendant conducted himself in a manner that might likely cause the breach of peace by creating a great pandemonium when removing the battery.

According to Emmanuel, the offence contravenes sections 249(d) and 390(d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of theft and breach of public peace.

The defence counsel, Mr Okoh Wonder, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal terms and pledged that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.

Magistrate A. A. Ayeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Ayeni added that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction, address to be verified by the prosecutor also present three recent passport photographs each.

The case was adjourned until July 13 for mention.
