The first phase of the 2025 edition of the annual Prison Sport Outreach Programme which started at the Medium Custodian Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos, ended at the weekend with various teams like Joy, Peace, Love and Faith participating in the weeklong programme.
Events competed for include, Athletics, Basketball, Football,Table- Tennis and Tug-of-war among others.
The programme is organised and powered by the Christian Youth Foundation ( CYF ), under the leadership of Ambassador Chucks Onyekwena.
Attention will be shifted to the Maximum Prison, Kirikiri, Apapa this week for the second phase of the programme that will be rounded up on Saturday 15 November, 2025.
Speaking with the media, President of the foundation, Ambassador Chucks Onyekwena, informed that the foundation actually started as far back as 2003 in Port Harcourt the River State Capital by Pastor Bimbo Odukoya.
It has now spread to different prison facilities across the country.
The outreach is equally going on in Houston and Texas in the United States of America.
For this year alone, aside the just concluded Medium Custodian Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos, it has taken place on 29 January, 2025 in Port Harcourt the River State Capital and on 15 October at the Ikoyi Prison. Lagos.
The next move is on the15 November, 2025 at the Maximum Prison, Kirikiri, Lagos. Maximum correctional centre Enugu while 6 December will be the turn of Enugu prison.
November 19th will be the turn of Romsey Prison facility, Rosharon, Texas while the memorial prison facility in Rosharon: USA, will take their turn on 22 November, 2025 before the Carol Vance prison facility Richmond, Texas, will play hosts on 29 November, 2025 to round off the foreign year activities for 2025 according to Ambassador Chucks Onyekwena, President, Christian Youth Foundation (CYF).
