Barred lines: Crowd storm telco stores

Torrents of Nigerians have stormed telecommunication stores across the country after telcos began barring following lines not linked with a National Identification Number (NIN).

THISNIGERIA observed that in Lagos telecommunication stores are filled to the brim even on Sunday evening, which used to be an off-day for telco staff.

Recall that telecommunication companies commenced a mass disconnection of telephone lines not linked with national identification numbers (NINs) late Saturday.

The latest disconnection has been attributed to the July 31 deadline set by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for telcos to bar all subscribers whose NINs have not been linked to phone lines.

However, most subscribers say their lines were blocked even though they have successfully linked their SIMs with their NINs.

It is unclear whether it was caused by a glitch in the system of network providers as no official report has been issued in that regard.
