Taraba Assembly passes state’s N149bn 2022 budget

The Taraba House of Assembly has passed the state 2022 budget, raising the figure from the N146 billion presented by Gov. Darius Ishaku to N149 billion.

This followed the adoption of a motion by the House Leader, Mr Yahaya Douglas and seconded by Mr Bashir Sulaiman, the Minority Leader during the plenary on Thursday.

Speaking on the budget, the Speaker, Dr Albasu Kunini disclosed that the increase in the budget was to take care of some critical sectors of the state.

Kunini said that some sectors of the state economy needed to be​ given more priority.

According to him, a budget is a mere estimate predicated on the expected revenue generated.

Kunini said that the budget was made up of N79 billion recurrent expenditure and N70 billion capital expenditure, assuring that the house would ensure that the budget was implemented to the latter.

The lawmakers also paid tribute to former Minister of Defence, retired Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma during plenary.

The Speaker led other lawmakers at a special session to mark Danjuma’s 84th birthday, saying that the elder statesman had left an indelible mark in Nigeria and beyond.

He said that Danjuma was instrumental to the creation of Taraba which had led to the socio-economic development of the people of the state.

According to him, the special session​ is to mark the​ 84 years birthday of the former minister of defence.
