By Victor Ofure Osehobo

A victim of police brutality who suffered damage to his eyes in Edo, Jerry Guobadia is asking for N10-million as compensation.
To this end he has petitioned the Edo State Judicial Panel on Brutality alleging partial blindness on his right eye due to brutality, alleged torture, inhuman and degrading treatment he received from men of the Nigeria Police in 2015.
Guobadia added that the sum of N10million to be paid to him is damages following an earlier Federal High Court ruling in suit number FHC/B/CS/213/2015 which was in his favour on the incident.
In the petition dated 29th October 2020 by his counsel, U.L.Osa-Uwagie, he said that on 15th July 2015, he was humiliated and brutalized by 4 policemen who took his N30,000 cash, his mobile phone valued at N65,000, his ATM card and his earpiece valued at N20,000.
The petitioner added that while the incident was on some good Nigerians captured it on their mobile devices just as the news crew of the ITV broadcast station were on location. This situation he said forced the policemen to take him away to a different location.
He said that in the new location, he was not only beaten to near stupor by the policemen who had guns, batons and clubs, but his clothes were torn after they stripped him naked and pushed him into a nearby gutter.
