Sule Lamido commissions rural road in Rivers

Former Jigawa State Governor on Monday commissioned the 7.3km Rumuji – Obele – Ibaa – Isiokpo rural road connecting Emohua and Ikwerre Local Government Areas of Rivers State as part of the ongoing commissioning of projects by Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike.
Lamido said recent efforts by Governor Wike to invite political leaders from other parts of Nigeria to identify with his projects in Rivers State were commendable as they would reunite a country that had been sharply divided over the past few years by bad politics.
Wike said the inauguration of the road was significant for him because it had over the decades been used to play politics by politicians seeking the support of the people. He charged the people to always hold politicians that make promises to them accountable to their promises.
He said he was very happy that he has been able to deliver the project, which connects many communities in the two local government areas with Port Harcourt, the international airport and the rest of the world.
The contractor that executed the project, Chief Ernest Amadi, said the company went through serious security challenges to deliver the project.
Academicians urge Badaru to rescind decision on Kafin- Hausa varsity.
“It was a deserted town like Afghanistan. We saw many indigenes who couldn’t come home because of the security situation. It was at a time when even the police told people passing through the Rumuji route to look for alternative routes because they could guarantee security,” Amadi said.
The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Tasie Amadi said the road was extended from 2.3 kilometres to 7.3 kilometres and it would help the people evacuate farm produce to needed markets in Port Harcourt and other areas.
An opportunity was taken to receive some members of the All Progressives Congress led by Chief Azunna Nkomadu who defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party. They were received by the state Chairman of PDP, Ambassador Desmond Akawor.
