We are aware of Iskilu Wakili’s arrest – Makinde

The Governor of Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde, has said that he was aware of the arrest of an alleged kidnapper Iskilu Wakili on Sunday.

According to reports Iskilu Wakili was arrested on Sunday by Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and other local security groups in Ibarapa North LGA.

The Oyo state governor on his Twitter handle on Monday said that his government was in the know of the events regarding Iskilu Wakili arrest at Kajola community in Ibarapa North LGA.

He went on to say that the Nigeria police was handling the matter just as he assured the people of Oyo he was taking all necessary steps to ensure that the interests of the good people of the state are protected.

Makinde urged all law-abiding citizens of the state to stay calm and go about their legitimate businesses.

Makinde said: “I am aware of what is going on in Kajola in Ibarapa North local government area of Oyo state. I will like to use this opportunity to tell our people that, the government is doing everything within its power to ensure that there is no miscarriage of justice.

“Anyone that is found wanting or that has broken the law, irrespective of their ethnic background or their religion will be dealt with in accordance with the law of the land.

“So, people shouldn’t go into overdrive.

“I have asked the Commissioner of Police to see me today and I have been given the assurance that they will do a thorough investigation into the security situations in the area.

“And I appeal to our people to please let us be calm. Please let us refrain from ethnic profiling, let us have trust in the ability and the capability of the people saddled with the responsibility of maintaining law and order within our state.

“It is the government that you put in place and the government will continue to work in the interest of the people of Oyo state.”

OPC leader, Gani Adams, speaking on the arrest of Iskilu Wakili  in a statement signed by Kehinde Aderemi, said Mr Wakili has been handed to the police in Igbo Ora, Oyo State.

“I am happy that the notorious kidnapper had been captured alongside three others,” he said.

“It is a good development and a positive signal to other criminal elements that the South-West is no longer an abode for bandits, kidnappers, and criminal herders.
