Senate suspends activities to mourn Hassan-Kila

The Senate has suspended all its legislative activities and business for today, March 9, 2021, to mourn Hon. Yuguda Hassan-Kila, 70, member of the House of Representatives.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, adjourned all items on the Order Paper of the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly this Tuesday morning to Wednesday, March10,  shortly after the votes and proceedings of the chamber for the precious legislative day were adopted at the plenary by senators.

Lawan said the convention in the National Assembly is to adjourn its activities when it loses any member of the Senate or House of Representatives to the law maker to the cold hands of death.

The Senate Leader, Abdullahi Aliyu Yahaya, who notified the Red Chamber of the passage of Hassan-Kila, said the Jigawa-born law maker passed on last Thursday in Abuja, moved the motion for a minute silence and adjournment of the Senate’s business of the day to mourn their late colleague.

Hassan-Kila, until his demise, a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) representing Gwaram Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He is the second federal law maker from Jigawa State to die in the 9th assembly following demise the of Muhammad Adamu Fagen-Gawo in December, 2019
