The Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed a fatal road accident that occurred along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The confirmation was contained in a statement released in Abeokuta by the Sector Public Relations Officer, Odunsin Afolabi.

Afolabi disclosed that the collision involved a Mazda commercial bus and a Volvo truck, resulting in the death of six occupants, while two others suffered varying degrees of injuries.

Preliminary findings from the corps attributed the crash to excessive speeding, resulting in a loss of vehicle control and the subsequent impact.

“At about 14:36 hours on January 1, 2026, an auto crash occurred, and the Federal Road Safety Corps rescue team was informed at about 14:40 hours. The team arrived at the scene at about 14:50 hours along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway at NASFAT Junction,” he said.

He explained that rescue operations were carried out by personnel drawn from the Mowe Unit, Ibafo Outpost, and the Ojota Unit Command Ambulance Team, with support from officers of the MTD RCCG Police Division and TRACE Mowe Division.

The injured victims were subsequently rushed to Famobis Hospital, Lotto, for urgent medical treatment, while the remains of those who lost their lives were evacuated to a morgue.

“The Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in Ogun State, Corps Commander Akinwumi Fasakin, has directed the corps’ crash investigators to carry out a full investigation into the crash, as it is our practice to investigate such incidents further,” he said.
