Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted N10m bail each to at least 10 protesters under the aegis of #EndBadGovernance.

Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye, also known as Lenin, and nine other protesters, who got bail in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CR/454/2024, are facing a six-count charge of treason, incitement to mutiny, intimidation of the President, destabilization of the country, and destruction of public property.

Others defendants that also got bail were Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo Simon, Angel Love Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiua Sadiq, Bashir Bello, Nuradeen Khamis, and Abdulsalam Zubairu.

According to the law, their activities undermine national security and public order.

During their trial, all of them pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

At the trial, the defence team, led by Marshall Abubakar, and the prosecution, represented by S.A. Lough (SAN), made their case. Having found reasons with the submission of defence counsel, Justice Nwite granted bail to the defendants.

The defence lawyers earlier made an oral bail application, which the prosecution opposed, saying that the severity of the charges carries capital punishment.

After that, the defendants were admitted to N10m each, with the condition that they provide one surety who must own property of equivalent value within the court’s jurisdiction.

The sureties were also asked to deposit their property documents with the court and submit their international passports. Additionally, the defendants are prohibited from participating in further rallies while on bail.

Justice Nwite has adjourned till September 27 for further proceedings.
