Why Wike threatens to acquire disputed land in Ogoni

By Emma Obe
Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has declared that the state government would acquire the disputed land between two Ogoni communities and build a mortuary on it where the corpses of the people killed in the conflict would be preserved.

The governor made the declaration while flagging off the reconstruction of Government Secondary School, Kpor in Gokana Local Government Area.

He said, “Since I know you are killing yourselves, I want to build a mortuary in Bomu and Lewe. I will show that all these things you are doing, see where they will put you when you die.”

He said he would meet with the leaders of the warring communities and carry out his threat if they failed to agree to end the protracted conflict.

He commended Ogoni people for supporting his administration, especially during the elections. “No matter how we have not been doing well, they have continued to give us support; they have encouraged us to fulfill the promise we made to them. We must thank them,” he said.
