
The police in Lagos have dragged four men before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged conspiracy and stealing of iron rods valued at N3 million.
The defendants are Tochukwu Okonkwo, 21; Adekunle Taiwo, 34; Philip Chafa, 27; and Iliasu Alasan, 32.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Dr. Simeon Uche, told the court that the defendants committed the offense on Feb. 13 at the Iyana-Iba construction site of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
In counts one and two, Okonkwo, Taiwo, and Chafa were alleged to have conspired to steal one bundle and 64 pieces of 25 mm iron rod, valued at N3 million, property of the CCECC Nig. Ltd.
In count three, Okonkwo and Chafa, being security men under the employment of the CCECC, were said to have failed to use every reasonable means, to prevent the stealing.
In count four, Alasan was alleged to have dishonestly received and retained nine pieces of 6mm crossbars, four pieces of 16mm rod, and 14 pieces of cut iron rod, all properties of the CCECC.

Uche said the offenses contravened the provisions of sections 287, 328, 405, and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr. Ademola Adesanya, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N250,000 each with two sureties each, in like sum.
Adesanya adjourned the case until April 25 for mention.
