An Upper Shari’a Court sitting in Kano, on Thursday, fixed March 3, for a cleric, Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru-Kabara, to open his defence in the ongoing trial for alleged blasphemy.
The trial judge, Malam Ibrahim Sarki-Yola, fixed the date following the submission by the defence counsel, Ambali Obomeileh-Muhammad, SAN, who prayed for an adjournment for his client to open his defence.
Sarki-Yola adjourned the matter until March 3 for the continuation of the hearing.
Nasiru-Kabara, who allegedly committed the offence on Aug.10, Oct.25 and Dec.20, 2019, is charged with four counts bordering on blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad.
On Feb.3, the court ordered the Kano State government to recall the first witness for a re-cross examination.
When the case came up for re-cross-examination, the prosecution counsel, Suraj Sa’eda, SAN, presented the Pw1 Adamu Adamu.

During cross-examination, the Pw1 told the court on Oct.14, 2021, that he read 40 different books which
included 20 hadith’s, 10 fiqhu and 10 tauhid.
Nasiru-Kabara also asked the Pw1 on Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) marriage with Nana Saffiya.
PW1 Adamu told the court that he was only testifying on what he heard while the defendant was preaching.
“Out of the books I read was Bukhari and Muslim, which did not show any blasphemous comment, unless if the person does not understand the hadith.
Sa’eda told the court that the defendant was alleged to have made a blasphemous comment against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) concerning his marriage with Nana Safiyya in Jautul Fara, Section 93 (40) and hadith 1,365 and 1,428. (NAN)
