How I made Wizkid an Afrobeats star – Eldee

Veteran singer, Eldee The Don has recounted how he made sure Grammy-winning singer Wizkid became an Afrobeats singer.

Speaking on the role he played in Wizkid’s formative days, Eldee said he was the one who convinced Wizkid to do afrobeats.

According to Eldee, Wizkid was leaning towards Reggae and Dancehall when he initially joined EME record label.

He added that he advised him (Wizkid) to create music with Nigerian influences.

“Wizkid was leaning towards Reggae and Dancehall when Banky W signed him before he dropped his first single but I told him he has to find a middle ground and do something Nigerian with a lot of flavors in it,” he said.

Eldee said Wizkid took the advice and started making Afropop songs like ‘Don’t Dull,’ which gave him a big break.
