Breaking: UK to return James Ibori’s £4.2m loot

The British High Commission to Nigeria, Ms. Catriona Laing, has said that the United Kingdoms will return to Nigeria  £4.2million which is part of the funds recovered from friends and family members of former Delta Governor, James Ibori.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday in Abuja, Laing said what is currently being returned were retrieved from friends and family members of Ibori.

Laing, who spoke at a ceremony for the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between both countries in Abuja said the UK is stepping up efforts to block moves to siphon public funds from Nigeria to the country.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami said the recovery of the stolen fund is part of the efforts of the current administration to fight corruption.

He said that the money will be used for the construction of the second Niger Bridge, Abuja-Kano road, and Lagos-Ibadan Express road.

Based on the agreement signed, the £4.2million is to be returned two weeks from now.
