11 passengers abducted by sea pirates in Rivers still missing

The 11 passengers that went missing after the boat in which they were travelling from Bonny to Port Harcourt on Tuesday have still not been found.

A search party commissioned by the maritime Workers Union in Bonny said on Thursday that they had not been able to find the passengers, the boat in which they travelled and even their abductors.

The team leader of the search party said they rather discovered the lifejackets and some items of the passengers near the spot at which their boat was hijacked.

Chairman of the Bonny Maritime workers, Henry Jumbo, appealed to members of the public with useful information on the whereabouts of the passengers to volunteer information to the maritime union.

The passengers taken by gunmen when their boat was hijacked on the Bonny River shortly after their boat left Bonny for Port Harcourt. The abductors are suspected to be sea pirates, who have been terrorizing the Bonny waterways for some time now.

Only on Sunday, unknown gunmen had kidnapped a lecturer of the University of Port Harcourt, Dr. Jones Ayuwo, while he was returning from a Bible translation mission in Andoni.

On the same day, gunmen kidnapped a First Class traditional Ruler from Andoni, King Aaron Ikuru from his home. The new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Mr. Friday Egboka said that the police was working hard to rescue the lecturer and traditional ruler unharmed.
