
Kaduna State Peace Commission, says there has been no violent conflict in major cities and conflict-prone areas of the state in 2021.
The Chairman of the commission, Rev. Idowu Fearon stated this during a press briefing on Tuesday in Kaduna.
He expressed joy that the efforts of the commission and its partners in de-escalating the drivers of violence in all parts of the state, were yielding results.
According to him, the major cities consist of Kaduna, Zaria, and Kafanchan while the conflict-prone areas were Sanga, Kajuru, Igabi, and Chikun Local Government Areas.
He appealed to the media to help in publicizing the activities of the commission so that the people could report threats to peace, security, and harmonious coexistence.
He said current efforts are ongoing to address the grievances driving the conflicts while initiatives to sustain peace and strengthen harmonious relations are being vigorously pursued.
The chairman thanked the commission’s partners for their support in strengthening social harmony and peaceful coexistence in the state.
“I wish to acknowledge the consistent efforts of the Kaduna State Government, under the leadership of Gov. Nasir El-Rufa’i towards peacebuilding, working with diverse stakeholders at local, national, and international levels.”
According to him, the administration has demonstrated consistent commitment to reversing the spate of violent conflicts and restoring the state to its known culture of peace, security, and progressive development
Feron noted that as part of the efforts, the state government had invested heavily in human capital and infrastructure while streamlining the structures of governance for effective service delivery and performance.
He said that the commission in its pursuit of peace and social harmony has engaged in dialogue, listening to all parties and groups, while responding to the concerns, worries, and needs of citizens.
The chairman thanked the Government of Norway and the United Nations Development Programme for supporting the establishment of an ICT-based Conflict Early Warning and Early Response System (CEWERS).
“The CEWERS is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that provide a platform for citizens to communicate and report incidences and threats to peace,” he said.

Feron explained that the platform received messages through verbal, short message service, email, mobile app, and web portal.
He also appreciated security agencies for their numerous interventions which helped to restore peace and stability in the state.
Feron urged the people to work collectively to de-escalate conflicts and build consensus on the most effective ways of pursuing the course of a common destiny, irrespective of differences. (NAN)
