As the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff between Nigeria and Ghana approaches, ex- junior international Blenda Alada has advised the Austin Eguavoen led the technical crew to ensure they work on the team’s defence ahead of the doubleheader cracker.
The Super Eagles would play away to the Black Stars of Ghana on March, 25 before the reverse fixture at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, March 29 and the former Flying Eagles player believes that the team’s defence has been a suspect of late and as such something urgent need to be done in that department of the team.

“ I know that the Super Eagles have some of the best strikers in the continent but I’ m afraid of the defensive line up which has been suspect for some time now and this has led to some of the poor results recorded by the three-time African champions in recent times.
“ We’re all aware that Ghana is one of the best football playing nations in Africa and when you’re playing against them, you must ensure you face them with your best team. So, I expect Coaches Austin Eguavoen, Emmanuel Amuneke and Joseph Yobo to work on the team’s defence to avoid an embarrassing result”, he explained.
Why we extended strike by two months – ASUU
Alada, a member of the 1989 Flying Eagles squad thought that Nigeria is capable of qualifying for the World Cup at the expense of their fellow West Africans but cautioned that this could only be possible if all departments of the team play well and avoid unnecessary complacency which could cause the team viable point.
“ I believe that we have the players that can beat Ghana home and away and qualify the country for this year’s Mundial but before this could be achieved, all the players must play for each other and avoid complacency as was witnessed in the game against Carthage Eagles of Tunisia at the last AFCON finals in Cameroon. I say this because the Black Stars is never a pushover in African and world football and will always put in an impressive performance in any game and as such, they must be taken seriously”, concluded the former Bendel Insurance and VIP player.
