The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly and Governorship screening, which commenced on the 14 to 15 of May has finally come to an end with a total of 145 governorship aspirants, 351 senate aspirants, and 1,197 House of Representatives aspirants screened.
Information had it from sources that the party ensured everyone was screened to give room for all aspirants to test their popularity on the field.
It was also to be observed that virtually all of them present who attended the screening came smiling signifying all went well.
The challenge is what mode of primaries will be adopted even though all aspirants will not subscribe to consensus, direct or indirect methods. But, taking caution to see that crisis didn’t erupt remains a big threat to the whole permutation.
Recall that the delegates’ list remains contentious because some party leaders are still laying claims to their structures while the governors and their former colleagues are locked in a show of supremacy tussle.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the inauguration of the screening committee, the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, hinted that only the best would be allowed to fly the party’s flag saying it cannot make the mistake of the past again which cost it lots of challenges.
Represented by Malam Abubakar Kyari, the national chairman also used the opportunity to welcome new defectors into the party.
He said, “We have a very strong party; we have a big party. And we’re committed to delivering the right candidates for the forthcoming elections. We do not doubt that the distinguished ladies and gentlemen assembled here will do just that.
“And I know there’s a long, long huddle ahead of all of us. I would like to at this point plead with you to be patient, and screen thoroughly so that we can have the best of the best.

“We have been very fortunate as a party that we have produced the best. Today we have 22 states and at the last count before myself (Kyari) and the national chairman and one of our colleagues resigned from the Senate we had 70 senators out of 109, which is just three shy of the two-thirds majority needed in the Senate. Also, we have almost two-thirds of the House of Representatives members.
“And even after we had left we had one senator who decamped into the APC from Sokoto and we’re expecting another one from Oyo to officially cross the aisle to the APC. All of us here in the National Working Committee, on behalf of the national chairman, would like to welcome”, he noted.
