2027: Quit race, we’ll take care of you, Kwankwaso tells Atiku

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has asked former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to drop his bid for 2027 presidency.
Kwankwaso who made this call when members of the Fulani Farmers Association visited him at his Abuja residence, said Atiku should devote his time to his traditional responsibilities.

Citing Atiku’s age and health, Kwankwaso asked supporters of the ADC Presidential Candidate to persuade him to withdraw from the contest.

“Go to the Wazirin of Adamawa’s house and tell him in Fulani that he needs to focus on his traditional title of Wazirin, given his age and health.

“If Allah grants us success, we will take good care of him, especially since you all come from Adamawa. An apology should be offered to him,” he said.

Recall Atiku emergence as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential flag bearer in May 2026, has generated so much fuss in the political landscape ahead of 2027 political race.

This recent declaration marked the sixth time Atiku will be campaigning for president. He contested for the first time in 1993.

Responding to a question on whether turning 80 by 2027 would make the stakes higher for him, Atiku said, “Certainly yes, because the stakes are higher and I believe that will be my last outing.”

The former vice-president has over the years advocated restructuring, economic liberalisation and a stronger role for the private sector in driving Nigeria’s economic growth.

“Under my presidency, I want to focus on five key areas: the unity of Nigeria, security, economy, education and devolving more resources and powers to the federating units,” Atiku said.
