The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that Rivers State does not require the backing of a sitting governor to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Wike made the statement on Saturday in Port Harcourt during the commissioning of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ headquarters. The facility houses Majority FM 89.5, a situation room, office spaces, and newly acquired operational vehicles.

Commending the group’s Coordinator, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, for what he described as an extensive grassroots mobilisation effort, Wike said the state was fully committed to delivering support for the President.

According to him, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors have established structures across the 23 local government areas of the state, demonstrating what he called a practical commitment to Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

“We don’t need to have a governor to mobilise for Mr President. We have senators, members of the National Assembly, state assembly members, council chairmen, and party leaders across the APC and PDP. If you say you support someone, you must show commitment,” Wike said.

He described Rivers as a “no-go area” for opposition to the President, insisting that the state had already proven its loyalty in the 2023 general election and would sustain that support in 2027 if Tinubu declares his intention to run.

Wike urged the group to deepen its mobilisation by inaugurating ward and unit coordinators to strengthen grassroots engagement, adding that the movement was “battle ready.”
Earlier, Akawor welcomed the minister and lauded his leadership role in the Renewed Hope Ambassadors initiative.

He disclosed that coordinators had been appointed in all 23 local government areas and described Wike’s political approach as “AI politics,” which he said reflects a strategic and innovative style of mobilisation.
The event attracted political stakeholders and supporters from across the state.
