Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and his Imo State counterpart, Hope Uzodimma, of waging political battles against him ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike, who spoke during his monthly live media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, also dismissed the opposition’s chances of stopping President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, declaring that the President would “walk to the Villa” in 2027 because there was no formidable challenger.
The former Rivers State governor accused AbdulRazaq of sponsoring political stakeholders against him over developments in Kwara politics, particularly allegations surrounding the political relationship between the FCT minister and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
He alleged that the Kwara governor had accused him of funding politicians who failed to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets in the state.
Wike also criticised AbdulRazaq for allegedly excluding serving senators and members of the House of Representatives from the state’s political structure.
“You remove senators, you remove House of Reps. You must be a super governor,” Wike said.
“The senators you removed, you have no place for them. They are all supporting Mr President. We gave them ticket. Instead of you to appreciate us that we did not allow them to go to ADC, you are now saying I am the one sponsoring candidates in your state.”
The FCT minister further alleged that Uzodimma was involved in similar political manoeuvres against him in Rivers State.
Wike, however, dismissed claims that he had reached agreements with governors to ensure that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not field candidates against them in the 2027 elections.
“I never promised any governor that PDP will not have candidates in any state. So Kwara will not be exception. I have equally said it to the face of the Kwara governor,” he said.
On the presidential election, Wike expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure a second term, arguing that the opposition remained too fragmented to mount a serious challenge.
“Whether the governor is in PDP or APC, the important thing is that we are all working for Mr President’s re-election,” he said.
“This will be an election where the President will just walk to the Villa because there is no opposition.”
Wike said his overriding political priority was ensuring Tinubu’s victory in 2027.
“Each time I sleep, I think about President Tinubu’s election. Anywhere I sit, my thinking is how the President will win this election,” he stated.
He argued that the opposition lacked the cohesion required to challenge the ruling establishment, saying, “You cannot come out of crisis within five months and contest for the presidency. If they are sincere about winning power, the opposition should not be scattered.”
On whether the PDP would produce a presidential candidate, Wike said the party would field one but questioned the candidate’s chances.
“The PDP has a presidential candidate, but he is not there to win,” he said.
Wike also acknowledged public concerns over economic hardship and insecurity but argued that the Tinubu administration had laid the foundation for recovery
