President Bola Tinubu has directed the armed forces, police, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security and intelligence agencies to launch a coordinated operation to rescue victims of the recent mass abduction in Niger State.
The directive followed the President’s expression of outrage over the abduction and killing of innocent citizens by criminal elements in the state.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, on the incident, Tinubu condemned the attack and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
“Those who carried out this cowardly attack on defenceless Nigerians are enemies of peace and enemies of humanity, who will not go scot-free,” the President said.
Tinubu commiserated with families of those killed in the attack, praying for the repose of the victims and strength for their relatives to bear the loss.
He also assured families whose loved ones were abducted that the Federal Government remained committed to securing their safe return.
“You are not alone. The entire nation shares your anguish. We will not rest until your sons, daughters, mothers and fathers are brought back safely to you,” he said.
The President directed the Service Chiefs to provide him with regular updates on the rescue operation until all the abducted persons are accounted for.
The directive brings the military, police, intelligence and other relevant security agencies into a coordinated effort aimed at locating the victims and dismantling the criminal network behind the attack.
Tinubu also assured residents of Niger State that the Federal Government would strengthen security operations and provide the necessary support to the state government in the aftermath of the attack.
“Terror will not cow Nigeria. We will defend our people, protect our communities, and uphold the sanctity of human life,” the President declared.
He said the Federal Government would support efforts aimed at recovery, relief and security reinforcement in the affected communities.
“My prayers are with the people of Niger State at this difficult time. The Federal Government stands firmly with the State Government and will provide all necessary support to aid recovery, relief, and security reinforcement,” Tinubu said.
The President’s directive comes amid renewed concerns over the vulnerability of communities to mass abductions and attacks by criminal groups, with the latest incident placing renewed pressure on security agencies to secure the victims and restore confidence among residents.
