Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that the commissioning of projects to mark President Tinubu’s second anniversary would commence on June 10, 2025.
Wike also revealed that President Bola Tinubu would personally commission 10 projects both in the city centre and in the community.
The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, will represent the President in three other locations, while the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, will represent the President and commission two projects.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, will also commission two.
He said that people in rural communities will have the opportunity to see their leaders, including the President, and all the aforementioned officials will be present in the rural areas, allowing the people to see them in person.
“Mr President has finally approved the commission projects to start on June 10, which is on Tuesday, after the Sallah holiday. And that will begin with the Abuja International Conference Centre, AIIC, and as you can see, we are all set to go.
“The next day, which is on the 11th, it is where we are now, the interchange on Nicon junction to Gishiri area.
“The interchange, going to Jahi, and the other side going to Maitama and Mabushi. We are now set to go. And the President will, on his own, commission 10 projects on his own.”
He said the projects for commissioning have been reduced to 17 due to time constraints.
Wike said he appreciates the President for all the support and for sparing 10 days of his hectic schedule to commission FCT projects.
“We want to thank the President. It is not easy for him to give us 10 good days when he will be around to commission the projects.
“So, we are happy. We are very, very happy that the people of Abuja are happy. You can see the joy of the children, and they are all feeling the impact of the New Hope Agenda.”
Wike had initially broken protocol to respond to primary school children who hailed and greeted him from their school premises.
Wike walked over to them and shook hands with the kids and their teachers before taking photos with them.
Before granting a press interview, he had inspected the Abuja International Conference Centre, the Interchange and part of Gishiri Road.
In the AICC, it was observed that the renovation was completed; the central air conditioning system was operating at full blast, and the lighting systems were fully functional as well. Seats in the auditorium and gallery, which were yet to be fixed during the last visit, were perfectly fixed. The sound system was equally tested.
Regarding the management of the AICC, considering the quality of the facility, Wike stated that the facility would be under his office’s control but that the maintenance of the facility would be entrusted to the company that had refurbished the structure.
Wike also commended the National Assembly for its prompt support, as both chambers passed the FCT budgets.
