In a bid to curb the decadence prevailing among the youths in Nigerian institutions, Anchor University vice chancellor, Professor Samuel Bandele has solicited for partnership between the parents and university authorities for comprehensive development of students’ character in faith- based universities.
Prof. Bandele made this declaration during the 9th Matriculation ceremony held on the school premises in Ayobo recently.
The former Ekiti State university chancellor posited that this was an era where moral values were challenged by societal shifts and as such many young people faced pressures that led to moral compromise-substance abuse, dishonesty, indiscipline and disregard for ethical standard.
He continued: “The digital age has also introduced distractions and negative influences that can derail students from their purpose.
Without strong guidance from both the university and parents, students may succumb to these pressures, losing their sense of direction and identity.
It is, therefore, imperative that we work together to shield them from these pitfalls and equip them with the strength to stand firm in their faith and values”.
According to him, for students to thrive holistically, there must be an active partnership between the university and parents.
He, however, encouraged parents to maintain regular communication with the school authorities saying that this collaboration will afford the parents the opportunity to be abreast of their wards’ activities in school.
He stated among other things that there should be mutual involvement in moral and spiritual formation of the students by both parties, thus emphasizing the need for mentorship and counselling, and moral accountability on the part of the students.
The university don has equally allayed the fears of parents in the area of accommodation for prospective new students ahead of fresh admission.
“We have taken proactive steps to address the issue of accommodation in anticipation of fresh admission as construction of new hostels have commenced in earnest. So, there is no problems in that regard, he assured.
Meanwhile, elated Bandele has attributed the successes recorded by the school under his leadership to God and the entire management team.
He equally commended the General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor W F Kumuyi and his wife, mummy Esther for their encouragement, prayers and support to the institution on a regular basis.
It will be recalled that Anchor University has matriculated a total of 780 students for 2024/2025 session, which is the highest since inception.
