President Bola Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, extending the implementation of the 2025 budget from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

The amendment was passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, before being transmitted to the President for assent.

A statement by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, said the extension would enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to complete ongoing capital projects and ensure that already appropriated funds were fully utilised.

According to the statement, the extension would also prevent disruption to critical government programmes and allow ongoing projects to proceed without interruption.

Tinubu commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for the swift passage of the amendment, describing it as a demonstration of cooperation between the Executive and Legislature in the interest of the country.
