Rhodes-Vivour vows action on Lagos housing, traffic, waste crises

Lagos State African Democratic Congress governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has promised to tackle the state’s housing, traffic and waste management challenges.

He stressed that he will not tell residents to live with their parents or accept traffic as a way of life.

Rhodes-Vivour, in a statement on Friday, said his administration would deliver 100,000 housing units that would be accessible and affordable to Lagos residents if elected.

He also promised to enact laws to protect tenants and establish an agency responsible for investigating and enforcing such laws.

On transportation, Rhodes-Vivour said he would not accept persistent traffic congestion as a normal part of life in Lagos, promising to complete the entire rail network within two years by opening the projects to private-sector procurement.

He said the focus of his administration would be on improving movement across the state and making transportation more affordable rather than enriching public officials.

“I will never in any language tell you that Traffic is a lifestyle.

“Instead we will deliver the entire rail network in 2years by opening the project to private sector procurement. Our focus will not be how to pad or steal money it would be on making movement in Lagos more effective and affordable,” he said.

On waste management, Rhodes-Vivour said his administration would tackle what he described as corruption and racketeering in the sector, while developing waste-to-energy and waste-to-wealth systems.

He also promised to build sewage processing facilities and empower local governments to participate in waste management.

Rhodes-Vivour further said public officials should not boast about expensive possessions while many Lagos residents struggle with poverty.

“Lastly under no circumstance will any public official boast about expensive watches whilst so many struggle in poverty,” he said.

He added, “My promise to you is high impact governance, actions you will feel, because Actions speak far louder than words.”

He ended the statement with the slogan, “Our Lagos.”
