A Vehicle Inspection Officer has reportedly been crushed to death by a truck while attempting to intercept the vehicle along Hospital Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The incident occurred opposite Mega Primary School, leaving the officer trapped beneath the truck as distressed residents gathered at the scene.
An eyewitness account shared in a video by Akure-based radio station Crest FM on Friday indicated that the officer attempted to stop the truck, which was reportedly in the fast lane, but was unable to do so before the fatal incident.
The footage showed residents shouting in distress, while some of the officer’s colleagues appeared shaken by the incident.
The officer’s identity had yet to be established as of the time of filing this report.
The circumstances surrounding the incident, including why the truck was intercepted and how the officer came to be trapped beneath it, remained unclear.
