Uba Sani, northern leaders discuss street begging, Almajiri crisis

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has held talks with the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation on street begging and the Almajiri phenomenon, stressing the need for coordinated education and social protection to safeguard vulnerable children.
Sani disclosed this on Friday after receiving a delegation from the foundation, led by its Chairman, Board of Trustees, former Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.
The governor said the discussions focused on the shared responsibility of protecting children through educational interventions and social welfare programmes, adding that every child deserved dignity, care and access to a better future.
The meeting also addressed the proposed Arewa Unity University, for which the Kaduna State Government has allocated land.
Sani described the project as an investment in education and human capital, saying it would help expand opportunities and strengthen unity across Northern Nigeria.
He also welcomed the foundation’s commendation of his administration’s efforts to promote peace, stability and development in Kaduna State.
The governor further acknowledged the delegation’s condolences over the death of Malam Nafiu Baba Ahmed, describing him as a distinguished son of the state.
Sani said he was honoured by the foundation’s invitation to serve as Special Guest of Honour at the Kaduna Legacy One-Day Summit on Inclusivity, Good Governance, Accountability and Sustainable Development, scheduled for October 28, 2026, in Kaduna.
He commended the foundation for its efforts to preserve the legacy of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, through initiatives aimed at promoting unity and development across the region.
