Army recovers over 5,000 rounds of ammunition in Kogi anti-kidnapping operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered more than 5,000 rounds of ammunition and killed two suspected kidnappers during a follow-up operation in Edimogbo Forest, Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The operation, conducted on November 3, followed an earlier raid on a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in the forest on November 2.

The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Composite Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued late Tuesday.

He said the troops tracked suspects who fled during the initial encounter and searched other hideouts in the forest, leading to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and several rounds of ammunition.

Items recovered included seven magazines, 438 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition, 4,725 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two bandoliers, two mobile phones and a power bank.

Abdullahi said the follow-up operation had strengthened the gains made during the previous day’s raid, adding that troops would maintain pressure on criminal groups operating in the area.

“The successful exploitation operation further consolidates the gains recorded during the previous day’s raid and underscores the Brigade’s determination to sustain pressure on criminal elements operating within its area of responsibility,” he said.

He added that troops had continued to dominate the area, with their morale and operational effectiveness remaining high.

The Army said the operation was part of its efforts to protect lives and property and restore lasting peace and security across Kogi State.

The 12 Composite Brigade has also been working with the Kogi State Police Command and other security agencies in efforts to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.
