Court convicts 2 men for house breaking, stealing, imposes N20,000 fine

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, convicted Sanusi Aminu, 18, and Abubakar Saidu, 19, for housebreaking and stealing three sledgehammers, generator parts and other valuables worth N200,000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, convicted the two men after they both pleaded guilty to the offences.

He, however, gave each convict an option of an N5,000 fine on each count of the offences.

The prosecutor, Insp Bamikole Olasunkanmi, had earlier told the court that the convicts committed the offences on July 23, at 4:00 p.m., at Housing Area in Ado-Ekiti.

He told the court that during police investigation one sledgehammer, electric wire and generator parts were recovered from the convicts.

Olasunkanmi said the convicts broke into the house of one Kayode Adewale and stole three sledgehammers, electric wire, three doorbells, generator parts, pot, plates and motor battery, all valued at N200,000, belonging to the complainant.

He said that the offences committed contravened Sections 411 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
