A judge of the Kebbi State High Court, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, has regained his freedom after spending about a week in the custody of his abductors.
The judge was released on Monday and has since reunited with his family, bringing an end to days of anxiety following his abduction, according to Vanguard.
A family member, who confirmed the development, expressed gratitude over his safe return.
“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity. He was just released and has returned home now after spending one week with the bandits,” the relative was quoted as saying.
The family also thanked the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies, and residents of the state for their prayers, support and solidarity throughout the period of his captivity.
“We sincerely thank and appreciate the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies, and the entire people of Kebbi State who contributed in different ways, offered prayers, and sent messages of sympathy. Your concern and support gave us strength, and we are grateful for your solidarity,” the family member added.
The source disclosed that details surrounding the judge’s release would be disclosed at a later time.
As of Monday morning, there had been no official statement from the Kebbi State Judiciary or security agencies confirming the circumstances of his release.
Justice Bunza was abducted last week, triggering widespread concern and calls from residents and stakeholders for his immediate release.
