Dr. Jones Ayuwo, the linguistics lecturer of the University of Port Harcourt that was kidnapped over three weeks ago in Ogoniland, has finally regained his freedom.
Dr. Ayuwo surfaced at his residence at the University of Port Harcourt, Choba early on Tuesday after spending 22 days with his abductors. But he and family members would not grant any press interview yet on what happened.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the release of the lecturer to This Nigeria. But said he would give details of the freedom of the lecturer in a press release that he said he was still compiling.
Dr. Ayuwo was kidnapped while returning from a Bible translation project in Andoni. He was taken away in his car, while the journalists he was traveling with were pushed out and their gadgets taken away.
He was kidnapped the same night that a traditional ruler in Andoni, King Aaron Ikuru, was kidnapped. There is no news yet about the whereabouts of Ikuru.
6 Weeks After, Kidnapped Kaduna School Students, Teacher Regain Freedom
The Police PRO said the police were still on the trail of the kidnappers, combing the creeks and bushes in Andoni and Ogoniland. He said the command was using tact to carry out the search and engagement to avoid harm to the abductees.
