Abduction: Police dismiss reports of protest in Kano

The Kano State Police Command says it is not aware of any protest over the widespread abduction of female students from universities across some states in the Northern part of the country.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Hussaini Gumel, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview that the command did not issue any permit for any body or group of people to stage any form of protest in the state.

“I was told by a resident of Rijiyar Zaki few minutes ago that about 11 youths were seen standing by the road and before our personnel approached, they all disappeared.

“So, basically I am not aware of any protest by student youths in and outside the state,” Gumel said.

He explained that the ban on any form of protest is still in force and that any person or group of people found engaging in any protest would be arrested and prosecuted.

The commissioner advised parents to carefully monitor the conduct and behavior of their wards as any one found disrupting the peaceful coexistence would be dealt with accordingly. (NAN)
