The Accord Party has called on security agencies to investigate alleged inciting comments attributed to a political figure ahead of the Osun governorship election.
The party made the call in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Joseph Omorogbe, on Wednesday in Abuja.
Accord said its demand followed a viral social media video which it claimed contained comments threatening members and supporters of the party.
The party alleged that the development was part of a pattern of political tension and intimidation involving its members in parts of the state.
It urged security agencies to investigate the video and take appropriate action if any offence was established.
“Accord is preparing for an election, not war. No political ambition is worth the blood of fellow citizens,” Omorogbe said.
The party also called for the release of more than 60 of its members whom it alleged were detained in Abuja and Nasarawa states to prevent them from voting.
Accord urged the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure adequate security before the election.
It also appealed to international partners, including the European Union, United States and United Kingdom, as well as the African Union and ECOWAS, to monitor the election.
The party urged voters to participate peacefully in Saturday’s election and vote for its candidate.
