Kano gov flags-off distribution of books, others to public schools

The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf yesterday supervised the distribution of books and instructional support materials to public schools across the state.

The exercise, which was held at the Coronation Hall of the Government House in Kano, was aimed at creating a conducive atmosphere for effective teaching and learning.

As contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sanusi Bature, items distributed include 1.3 million textbooks in English Language, Mathematics, Basic Sciences, and Basic Technology, 670,000 exercise books,215 pieces of whiteboards, 7,100 pieces of white markers, 15,000 pieces of bags, 15,000 pairs of Schools sandals, 311,600 sharpeners, mathematical sets, pencils, rulers and erasers.

Others include; 10,368 sets of library accessories, 500,000 sets of Special education accessories,2,000 tablets android, 40,000 sets of uniforms, 10,000 cartons of white chalks, 50 pieces of science laboratory equipment, 5,000 pieces of dusters as well as pupils’ digital attendance equipment.

In his opening remarks, the governor said the provision of the items was in line with his administration’s zeal for improving teaching and learning in public schools and responding to the yearnings and aspirations of the good people of the state.

He affirmed that the state government has taken the bold steps of arresting the rot and decay that characterised the education system in the last eight years.

The Governor said, “We believe that education is the only priceless wealth that any society will enrich its population with, and make members of the community be more patriotic, productive, and even more useful to themselves and to the entire nation.

“Kano State Government accords utmost priority to the education sector and it will not relent in implementing  its educational rejuvenation master plan that focuses on; expansion access to education, ensuring provision of quality education, and eliminating illiteracy through lifelong learning.”

 

*Orders recruitment of teachers

Meanwhile, the Governor appreciated the contribution of teachers under the Better Education Services Delivery for All (BESDA) programme.

“Let me recognise and appreciate the role of our BESDA teachers who performed well in uplifting our primary education. It is in this recognition that this government will do everything possible to assist them in whatever way possible,” he stated.

He directed for the screening of all the BESDA teachers across the state within two weeks preparatory to the initiation of the process of offering them employment.

Kabir-Yusuf used the opportunity to call on all stakeholders in the education sector in the state to ensure the judicious utilisation of what was provided to achieve the desired goals of taking education to a greater height.

Other personalities who spoke at the occasion include the state Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Isma’il Falgore, among others.
