Activists, friends throng late Tony Uranta’s residence

Human rights activists and friends of late activist, Mr Tony Uranta, has continued to pay condolence visits to those he left behind at his Omole Phase I residence in Lagos.

A correspondent who monitored the visits on Friday, observed that mourners trooped into the Uranta family home to condole with his widow, daughter and other family relations.

An activist, Mr Gbenga Ganzello of Women Arise for Change Initiative and We Care Foundation, described Uranta as a great hero of democracy.

According to him, Uranta lived a life worthy of emulation.

Another activist, Mr Olufemi Lawson of Women Arise, said: “You lived a life of impact. We can’t believe you left before we could see you.

“Such a happy and caring man you were. You fought hard. Our hearts go out to your family.”

Also, Mr Achike Chude, an activist said that Uranta would be greatly missed.

“You played your path in the history of Nigeria and it was huge. You were a force,” he said..

Mr Elijah Ajamu of Ideal Society group described Uranta as a dogged fighter.

A relation, Mrs Patience Udoh, described Uranta as a lover of people whose impact would not be easily forgotten.

Mrs Jemimah Olorunmowaju, another of his relations, commended Uranta for all he did for her and other people.

“I will miss you so much. Thank you for all you have done for me,” she said.

According to Gift Apata, who described Uranta as her uncle, the deceased was part of her life and will forever be missed.

Uranta, 67, a prominent civil rights activist and Niger Delta chieftain, passed on Wednesday afternoon at the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

Uranta was a member of the Federal Government’s Technical Committee on Niger Delta; Executive Secretary, Pan-Niger Delta Forum, Executive Secretary, United Niger Delta Energy Development Security Strategy (UNDEDSS), Executive Secretary of the Nigeria National Summit Group (NNSG) among others.
