Just three weeks after she broke the 21-year-old Irish 400m indoor record, Rhasidat Adeleke lowered the mark once again, this time at the Big 12 Championships in Lubbock, Texas.
Running for the University of Texas, the 20-year-old Adeleke finished in 50.33, taking 0.12 off her Irish record.
For a brief time on Saturday, Adeleke held the US collegiate record as her run was 0.01 quicker than the record of Kendall Ellis set five years ago. However, at the SEC Championships, the University of Florida’s Talitha Diggs ran 50.15 to snatch the record from Adeleke.
Adeleke’s run is also the third fastest time in the world this year. Femke Bol’s 49.26 world indoor record, which was set last week, is at number one. It also puts Adeleke at number 14 on the all-time indoor list.

In early February in Albuquerque, Adeleke ran 50.45 to smash Karen Shinkins’ 21-year-old Irish 400m indoor record. Even prior to that run, the Dubliner had been in record breaking form. In January, she lowered her own Irish 200m indoor record by three-tenths of a second when she ran 20.52.
The Tallaght sprinter holds the Irish records for both 200m and 400m indoors and outdoors, and also the 60m.
Earlier on Saturday, Andrew Coscoran broke the 41-year-old Irish 1500m record when he ran 3:33.49 as he finished third at the World Indoor Tour final in Birmingham.
