
Some football fans on Wednesday advised the Super Eagles to learn from their mistakes in their ouster from the ongoing AFCON tournament in Cameroon.
The Super Eagles lost 0-1 to the Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles in one of the round of 16 matches at the tournament in Garoua.
The experience garnered from AFCON 2021 could propel the Super Eagles to victory in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Taiwo Awoniyi, a fan said through the telephone from Birmingham that rather than dwell on their mistake, the Eagles can use the mistake as a lesson for better performance in subsequent matches.
According to him, the Super Eagles had the caliber of players who could have delivered in that game to the satisfaction of Nigerian fans.
Awoniyi, however, advised the coach Augustine Eguaveon and the entire team not to lose hope.
“The coach should ensure that we don’t repeat the same mistakes in World Cup qualifying matches, “ he said.
Another fan, Miss Joy Odigwe, said though she is not happy with the outcome of the game, it is important for the players and coaches to remain focused ahead of other games.
Similarly, Abdulazeez Sukogi, a grassroots player at Wazobia FC, advised the Super Eagle players to avoid the type of mistakes that could expose them red cards in big games.
“As a situation is now, we need to tell them to be more careful about what they are doing and at the same time in the game they should make certain moves.
Sukogi called prominent Nigerians to continue to promise cash rewards to Eagles whenever they are on international duty.
He said such gestures are genuine sources of inspiring the players toward better performance.
“I am not in agreement with the people say that promises of cash rewards from top government functionaries and prominent Nigerians distracted Eagles.
“It’s just like you promise me that if I pass my final year in university, I will be given money to excel in life. Nobody will hear that and won’t try harder to win, “ he said.
Saidu Ibrahim, Team Manager of bet Naija, said the team should write open letter of apology in newspapers publications to their fans.
